Hi Dolls. I'm so happy to present you an interview that I had with an amazing young stylist - Janja Popović. She won Elle's competition for the new Slovenian stylist and I was belated when she agreed to do this interview. So here it is and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
1. Can you describe yourself very quickly.
I'm Janja Popović and I'm from Murska Sobota, where I finished Murska Sobota high school and then continued my studying on NTF College in Ljubljana: subject - fashion and textile design (I'm in my 2nd year now). I love to draw, design.
2. When did you first interest in fashion appear?
I have always been interested in fashion, with drawing, sketching, searching through fashion bibles, creating different outfits. Even though I started this at a very young age, I wasn't able to express myself in middle school, but now it become very serious and mature. After all, my college gives me technical foundation, which I can upgrade with my own creativity. They asked me once, how is possible that I know so much about fashion, coming from such a small town. I think that nowadays this is not an obstacle anymore, because you can find lots of information on the internet, connecting to the fashion capitals, different sites etc.
3. How would you describe your style?
Youthful and urban with a hint of elegance.
4. Who or what inspires your wardrobe and why?
My inspiration is the nature itself with the unexpected silhouettes and shapes. I find it also in everyday little things. Especially people, who surround me and I always observe them. And if I find some details really touched me I always combine them in my own way.
5. Who are your favourite designers?
I love so many of them, so it's hard to focus on just one, because every one of them has something that I like and something that I don't. Someone can make very good dresses, someone great textures, others amazing material, or just the silhouettes themselves. I would only like to highlight my favourite collection from Givenchy haute couture fall/winter '11.
6. You were chosen as a stylist on Phillips fashion week. What was your experience like?
At first I wasn't sure if my work was good enough for this kind of competition and then I just signed up for it and I was so proud and happy when I won. I was the youngest competitor, that's why I kind of didn't even expect to win. It was a great experience and we cooperated very well. I experienced what the job as a stylist is really like and how is everything working in real life. This opportunity opened so many doors for me, I worked with other stylists and they even called me to work with them.I shop everywhere. I usually buy something that catches my attention and something that feels appropriate at the moment.
8. Are there any trends you are particularly inspired by this season?Knee socks, colourful coats, printed skinny pants, knitted caps (beanie hat).
And some of her amazing work:
