Intervju s Karinartistic / Interview with Karinartistic

SLO

Sem Karina in pišem blog Karinartistic že (rosni) dve leti. Moj blog je podaljšek mene, nekaj kar me celostno predstavlja.

O lepotnih izdelkih sem pisala, ker so me inspirirale youtuberke, zato sem tudi začela z blogom.

Definitivno me je spodbujala. Konec osnovne šole sem ugotovila, da me umetnost zelo zanima in zato sem se odločila, da se vpišem na bolj umetniško usmerjeno srednjo šolo. Pristala sem na araženrski šoli, kjer so bili profesorji fenomenalni, saj indivdualno podpirajo vsakega učenca. Če vidijo potencial in talent, bodo s teboj delali in ti pomagali, do uspeha in dovršenosti. Zelo so mi pomagali in me podpirali.

In še isti dan sem potem ustvarila Karinartistic.

Od kod izvira tvoje ime? Morda razmišljaš o prenovi celostne podobe (t.i. rebrandingu) in v katero smer bo šel tvoj blog v prihodnosti?

Ljudje vedno bolj uživajo v nekih zgodbah, zato pod slike vedno rada kaj napišem – poezijo, »mikrozgodbico«, trenutne misli.

ENG

Karina Vešeleni is a successful Slovene blogger, who has been running her blog Karinartistic for the past two years. She's the second of #goalspeople, how I named my interview posts that I'm presenting here on Blush. She is a true artistic soul, who lives in the moment and is inspired by the nature, art and interesting people. She's not just one of my best "blogging buddies", but also best friends in my private life. That's why I am honoured I can share with you this interview we recorded at the beginning of January.

First of all I would like to ask you, if you can quickly introduce yourself in a few simple sentences.
My name is Karina and I've been a blogger at Karinartistic for the past two years. My blog is an extension of me, something that represents me completely. It's a place, where I can post things that inspire me and I couldn't use otherwise. I like to describe it as my third leg (laugh). When I was younger, before my blogging years, I loved to photograph different things and to make flatlays out of them. But I didn't have any platform to post them to, so I started out with Facebook – on my private profile. However, my friends didn't really appreciate that or weren't particularly interested in my photography.

How would you describe your blog? I know that you started out with posting about beauty, but you have recently moved away from that. Why have you decided to take that step?
I never really liked to allocate myself to a specific genre, but it's true that I started out with beauty and posting about beauty products, because I was inspired by different YouTubers. That's why I also started with my blog. I've never really specifically defined myself, because I always write about things that inspire me at that particular moment. I could also say that inspiration is my favourite word.

Where do you find your inspiration? From the nature, Instagram, bloggers, art?
I would say that mostly from Instagram and nature. These two things do somewhat connect in my opinion. The Instagrammers I love to follow are all the so-called »outdoor types«. They are all mainly lifestyle bloggers, photographers or illustrators, who share their work with others (like 1924us for example). I love to follow people, who are diverse, interested in a variety of things and don't like to define themselves to a particular genre, just like me.

Which Instagrammers do you follow and would also recommend to my readers?
I love to follow food bloggers, even though I don't particularly focus on the dishes they make, but on their photographs and the filters they use – they make really dark photographs, which come very close to my own aesthetic. And of course other lifestyle, personal style bloggers that fall into the same aesthetic category.
I would like to point out the following Instagrammers: @charlottelittlewolf, @1924us, @bliu07, @lindalomelino, @local_milk, @benjaminhardman and @ellemayleckenby.

You went to an art high school, where you took a course for a Visual Merchandiser. Did the experiences you gained in high school somewhat contribute to the work you do now?
High school has definitely motivated me. At the end of primary school I realized that I was really interested in art. So I ended up at an art high school in Ljubljana – the professors were phenomenal, because they supported every single student. If they saw a potential and talent in you, they would work with you and help you to succeed. They helped me out a lot and really supported me. It's also interesting that I first heard of the whole blogging concept in a class, where our professor, Ms Nives Ratkajec, showed us a British blog, can't really remember the exact name right now. It really intrigued me to start blogging myself. So high school definitely helped me improve on all artistic fields.

What was then your main reason for starting a blog?
I've never really followed other bloggers before starting my own. When I started with college, I used to watch different YouTubers. Those girls really inspired me to start my own blog. At first I thought you had to pay a certain amount to be able to blog, but my friend thankfully reminded me that you can do it for free on Blogger. And I created Karinartistic the same day.

Where does your blog name come from? Have you ever consider about rebranding it? In which direction are you taking Karinartistic in 2017?
The same day that I created my profile on Blogger, I was also thinking about the blog name, which would be unique. The idea that I could combine two different words into one really intrigued me. So if I could describe myself, I would say that I'm an artistic person. And my name ends with an A, so that's why I decided to combine these two words together and create Karinartistic. However, after two years of blogging, I have slowly started thinking of rebranding it, because I have also changed as a person since the very start of my blogging career. Now I could maybe think of another word-play, which would describe me even better than Karinartistic

Do you think there's such a thing as a formula for blogging success (in Slovenia) and keeping that real (authentic) relationship with your readers at the same time?
I haven't yet figured out the formula, but I'm also not sure, if it really exists. There is a certain combination of things you need to do, to gain a certain following. But of course there's an evident difference if people follow you because they really like you or just because you are a popular blog.
People love to read stories and that is why I always like to write something under my photographs – poem, »microstory«, current thoughts. I write something that is related to the picture, because I think that interests people so that they can also relate to the posted photograph.

What's your favourite memory of 2016? Do you have a certain goal, you want to achieve in 2017?
My favourite moment of 2016: it happened in October, when me and my friend, who lives close to Kobarid, decided to drive on the peak of the mountain Stol, just before the sunrise. When we arrived there, we took out our tea, sat on the grass and enjoyed the sunrise. It was a breathtaking experience. If you follow me on Instagram, you would be able to experience it with me on my "Instastories", but now you can also check out the pictures in my feed.
I don't have any special new year's resolutions for 2017 because I personally find them useless and don't want to limit myself at the beginning of the year. I do like to have some goals that motivate me, even though they might change throughout the year. I want to rebrand Karinartistic and move it from Blogger to WordPress.org, create my own domain and add a more professional look to the blog.
I already got my job, which was one of my main goals of 2017. I was lucky enough to get it just before the new year. I'm not sure about the rest, we'll see what the future brings. I don't like to plan too far ahead because I love to live in the present moment.

Karina, thank you very much for your answers.

  1. Hvala za zanimiv intervju. Vedno z veseljem spoznam nove obraze.
